Sunday Club 28.7.19 The Good Samaritan.

(Adapted from Sermon4kids)

Today we welcomed two new members to Sunday Club. William, from our congregation and Bianca who was on a short break, visiting her uncle.

Our Bible story today was The Good Samaritan. It was the parable Jesus told a lawyer who asked what he should do to have eternal life. Jesus then asked the man what the Bible says and he answered, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbour as yourself. The lawyer then asked, “Who is my neighbour?”

What did Jesus mean? After talking about this everyone agreed it was anyone who is in need of help.

We talked about the times they have needed help, who helped them? and times they have helped others.

We decided that we all need help some times in our lives and Jesus answered the lawyer’s question by telling him the parable of the Good Samaritan which was read to the group by Michael and Tyler.

Story.

One day a man travelling from Jerusalem to Jericho was attacked by robbers They beat him, took his money, stripped him of his clothes and left him beside the road to die.

Later, a priest came by, but when he saw the man he crossed over to the other to the other side of the road and continued on his way.

Then, after a while, a Levite who worked in the temple came along. He also saw the man lying there and passed by on the other side of the road.

Finally, a man from Samaria came along and when he saw the man, he stopped to help him. He put medicine on his wounds and wrapped them with bandages. That wasn’t all. He took the man to an inn and took care of him. The next day, he gave the innkeeper some money and asked him to take care of the traveller. He also asked the innkeeper to give the man everything he needed and if it cost more than he’d given the innkeeper he would repay him next time he visited.

When Jesus had finished telling this story he asked the lawyer, “Which of these three men was a neighbour to the traveller who was attacked?”

What do the group think the lawyer replied?

Yes, the Samaritan who helped him.

Then Jesus said “Now you go and do the same”

Jesus tell us all not only to love God but to love our neighbour too and now we know that everyone is our neighbour.

Prayer.     Dear Lord, help us to love you with all our hearts and to love our neighbour as we love ourselves. Amen

Following the prayer, we acted out a sketch based on the story following a script (adapted from an activity in Sermon4kids) which all the group enjoyed, with everyone having the opportunity to try different roles.

They unscrambled words from the story and made stick people pictures using plasters with their own words around the plaster person based on the theme, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and love your neighbour as yourself.
